MOTIVATIONS AND INTENTIONS // MOODBOARD AND MUSES 6

While on baby countdown as she's now officially late to the party *definitely my child*  I thought it would be good to share some of my motivations and intentions for 2018 and what has inspired me so far! Embracing Motherhood a second time round has made me really think about how I want to connect, not only to my little family, but also to myself. Seven years ago I totally lost myself in motherhood and change, and it was haaaard, coupled with PND it seems like a lifetime ago! This time round I feel like a totally different person, one I can hopefully hold onto.

So let's take a peek at what has got the grey matter going this month:

Things I'm loving:

// SELF DEVELOPMENT. I have always been a big one for investing in yourself and practising self development as there's always room to grow. It's also a super healthy trait to pass onto your kiddos, that learning doesn't stop at the school gates. This year we have concentrated on doing a review of 2017 and where we want to be in 2018. For this I have been using two resources: First, the lovely Hannah from Seeds & Stitched January Book! I love this free downloadable resource and definitely has given us room to evaluate the year. Second is the a more detailed approach to a personal end of year review. Both are great and really help you focus on the year ahead! 

// BOOKS. While I'm on the self development train of thought, here are a list of books for both personal and business growth that I'm stock piling for all those night feeds:

Mindfulness for Mums & Dads - I've already read the first two chapters and love it. Definitely going to use techniques to calm my brain when I'm feeling frazzled. 

In the Company of Women - Written by Grace Bonny, this book focuses on women across the globe embracing their entrepreneurial spirits and starting creative businesses. YAAAS!

Brand Brilliance - I've been hearing good things about this and can't wait to dive in. It's all about elevating your brand, enchanting your audience and creating a business that really works for you. 

Playing Big - Also available both as an audio book, has been recommended to me by sooooo many people as a 'life changer'. Focusing on being a successful woman, this has got me thinking 2018 is the way forward!

Braving the Wilderness - Another one that has been on my list for a while now. Renowned author Brene Brown challenges everything we think we know about cultivating true belonging in our communities, organisations, and culture.

Self Care for the Real World - New to me, this book comes with a lot of praise from celebrities, book critics and a few friends, so I'll be checking this one out soon.

Don't Read This Book - I LOVED this book! If you are a creative person with terrible time management then this beauty is for you! 

// CREATIVITY. I think this year I really want to spend more time with my actual camera in hand rather than my iPhone. Distraction seems to be the thief of time for me, that and procrastination! 

Things I'm Not:

// FASHION. Well not fashion per say but the lack of it in my life at the moment. It is a wonderful thing to watch your body bloom and grow but I've been living the last two months in the same four outfits on rotation to house my pregnant belly and I CAN NOT WAIT to fit back into my wardrobe!

// Did I mention I was having a baby?!

So there we go, a little look at my motivation and inspiration for the year ahead, while waiting on this little one to arrive! hopefully my next post will be introducing you to our newest member of the family! 

HELLO 2018!

Happy New year you lovely lot and hello 2018! I ended up taking a big chunk of time off at Christmas, which wasn't intentional but was definitely needed so apologies for the radio silence and slow return to this little corner of the Internet.

Going into Christmas I was 35/36 weeks and exhausted, so it was nice to switch off and let everything take a back seat while I watched the kiddo get excited about presents, board games, festive films and woodland walks, as well as cope with my nan going into hospital.

I've been spending some time nesting and reflecting on the past year, writing down intentions and trying to focus on a word that will be leading 2018. Obviously there is going to be a huge change with a new baby on the way *Less than two weeks to go until D-Day eek!* but aside from the new routines and sleepless nights, I want to be sure to take some time to reflect on myself and allow myself not to be lost in the process of new motherhood again.

So what word? I've been toying with Brave and Embrace but haven't quite settled on which is best, it might be that I use both. Brave for all the new challenges and change ahead and Embrace so I can move with them rather than against them, while looking after my mental and physical health.

2017 gave me a miracle, a new life that I was told I couldn't have and with it bubbled up all of the loss and grief of the last five years that also needed to be waded through, so I have definitely felt challenged. Now I am looking forward to a positive year full of firsts and laughter.

I am planning on taking a small amount of maternity leave once she arrives - although that could be any day now - I want to take the time to soak up those newborn baby days and snuggles. Hopefully I'll have a few post scheduled to keep me going over here and I will still be sharing over on my Instagram as I slowly emerge from hibernation.

For now though I just want to say thank you all for following Wild & Grizzly and this little journey of mine and here is to a year of positivity and adventure.

WINTER WARMERS PINTEREST INSPIRATION WITH LOAF

This week I have collaborated on a winter warmer Pinterest board with Loaf. OK so it's not quite winter yet, but that doesn't mean I can't start thinking ahead to frosty walks, hot chocolate, chunky wool socks, warm crumbles and roaring fires right? As much as I love Autumn, I think half of the excitement is knowing what joy winter brings. As you might know I am a huge fan of Loaf and all their home ware delights, especially their gorgeous linen sets which are a regular feature on my bed and Instagram. They are like sleeping on a cloud! I mean how cute is this kids room?! I have my eye on the mountain pillow for the baby's corner.

FIVE FLORAL INSTAGRAM FEEDS TO FOLLOW

It's spring and Instagram is awash with Magnolia, Cherry blossoms, Wisteria and other such floral beauties that come together to bring your feed a pop of colour and make your heart skip a beat. There's nothing like beautiful blooms to inspire and that's why I've pulled together five floral instagram feeds to follow, all with their own magic and way of spreading the joy in our little square filled worlds...because you know...we all need a little pretty in our lives.

How is it even March! I can't believe how quickly time is slipping and I feel like I have so much to do, the diary is filling up and I really must get myself organised *do you have any tips?* I've been super busy creating content, styling commissions and photography this last month, working with some fab brands – all will be revealed soon – and had a feature in the March Style at Home Magazine showcasing the bedroom makeover from last year, as well as being spotted in Very Magazine for some pinterest inspo– YAY!

So let's dive straight in. 

Things I'm loving:

// Magazines. Yep as much as I love scrolling through various feeds, down the Pinterest rabbit hole and other such visual feast, there's nothing quite like flicking through the pages of a beautifully designed mag. Currently on my radar is Lunch Lady (family kitchen stories), Dog (love this), Oh Comely (obvs), Human Being, Aperture and the Chloe Sevigny book.  

// Podcasts and radio shows. I've got into a bad habit of working in silence, mainly because I forget to put anything on in the background, which is a) boring and b) not that productive. So to combat this I've been listening to various podcast for inspiration and hoping some info seeps in while I work. I've been getting some instagram joy from Me and Orla's podcasts and nice to find a small radio slot I listen to is back on....makes me chuckle. Oh and if you have any music recommendations then let me know.  

// Goals. My new motto is 'if you have some, write them down!' I think I've kind of bumbled along a little too long without stopping to focus on what I want to do, or at least revisit dreams I once had, but as we know life is waaaay to short to overlook this sort of stuff and thinking about things isn't really going to make mountains move. Now is the time to start achieving, planning and making it happen. At the beginning of the year I received an upsetting diagnoses health wise, which has made me stop and evaluate my next move. It's never to late to follow your heart people. go go go.

// Wolfgang Tillman exhibition at the Tate Modern. Surely no explanation needed for this one! Go check it out, it's on until June :)

Things I'm Not:

// Tumeric. yep turns out when you have a brace this lovely little spice has a very interesting effect. Think gold grills/full on bling! Oh My Eyes. So a quick trip to the dentist and off I go to swap them elastics out for some refreshed white ones. eek.

Other Things:

// Ok let's have a quick talk about kindness, yep you should sprinkle that stuff like confetti. Now perhaps my expectations are a bit out there, who knows, but my friends know that I'm pretty straight up, open and honest, supportive and generally very forgiving or at least tolerable. But just incase there is any doubt let me just write it here. What is not cool is bitching, bad mouthing and generally being a dick. Be better than that and remember karma's a bitch.

NEW YEAR, NEW ME? MOODBOARD & MUSES 04

Oh hey! So I seem to have silently slipped through the whole transition of the dud that was 2016 into what I'm hoping will be a much better and more positive year. I took a step back over Christmas from pretty much all social media and didn't pressure myself to jump back on the horse as soon as the clock struck midnight, in fear of a Cinderella type scandal. Nope I want to start the the year with both feet firmly planted in those glass slippers, grounded and full of intent. I could look back over the last year, pop together a review but to be honest it was a pretty crappy one peppered with some awesome highlights, not to mention the global sigh of 2016, and I'm quite relieved it's been given the boot to be honest.

A CREATIVE WEEKEND:IN

It's easy as a creative and freelancer to get blogger burnout, where productivity hits a bit of a wall and you struggle for inspiration, or you keep saying yes to everything and then find yourself frazzled juggling it all. I often find I'm at my best when surrounded by a community of like-minded people to bounce ideas off, and although everyone is probably feeling that end of year tow *because let's be honest 2016 has been a bit of a bitch* I am so grateful to have such a wonderful group of inspirational people in this city. 

AN EVENING WITH YONDER COLLECTIVE

When I think about why I love Bristol it's not hard to come up with a pretty long list; the architecture, the harbour, cool cafes and pop up restaurant, galleries and art house cinemas, and more all a stones throw from the countryside and a short-ish train ride to London. Yep Bristol has got it going ON! But the best thing about Bristol is the people, the community of creatives who all get together to support, share and inspire and that for me is gold!

BEST BAR & RESTAURANT DESIGN // No 197 CHISWICK FIRE STATION

I've been super excited to share this gorgeous interior space with you because quite frankly it's totally swoon worthy, has been on my list of places to visit for an age and it's an instagrammers dream, oh the food is pretty awesome too. I would go as far to say that No 197 Chiswick Fire Station is up there on my best bar & restaurant design list, with its beautiful stripped back interior and utilitarian style keeping it true to its Fire Station heritage.

STAY MOTIVATED AND INSPIRED IN SEPTEMBER

Waving goodbye to the summer holidays and packing of the kiddo's back to school, I'm not sure if it's just me but some of you might find the shift from a slightly relaxed routine to throwing yourself into work a little daunting? For all of you who are self employed/freelance/creative/full time stay at home super hero parent *delete as appropriate* trying to stay motivated and inspired in September can be hard work in itself. A shift in the seasons is coming and soon people will start whispering the jolly ole C word and oh where does the time go.....spiral spiral.

BLOGGER MEET UP AND A CLIFTON COLOUR PHOTO WALK

The great thing about the blogging world is the wonderful community of creatives that you can share your passion with, and yesterday I did just that. The lovely Laura from Cardboard Cities recently got in touch suggesting it could be fun to host a photo walk in Bristol. As I'm always up for fun, I immediately said I would help out and we pulled together a date and released it on twitter. The next day I was both equally surprised and thrilled to see that in less than 24 hours all the spots had been filled and we officially had a photo walk to plan!
Yesterday our plan came together and we met up with a fab bunch of ladies who had travelled from Wales, Bristol and Oxford to join in, and the weather could not have been more perfect. For those who aren't familiar with the concept of photo walk, it's pretty much what it says on the tin. 

We planned a rough route with some visually appealing destination points along the way and made some goodie bags filled with confetti, heart balloons, street chalks and other small pieces to have fun with. It was great to see everyone take photos, be inspired and network, and it's always great way to finally meet up with virtual friends in real life!



We created a #cliftonphotowalk hashtag for Instagram and twitter so people could see what we were up to and most of the ladies were sharing their day on snapchat too. We spent a good four hours out and about, and the kiddo even joined us for ice cream towards the end. Here are some of my favourite Instagram pics from the day.

Oh hey! Sorry I know it's been a while but the boy is back to school and without the constant monologue of Paw Patrol, there seems to be enough head space to put words to screen and get some inspiration flowing. I seemed to have missed out on my March Moodboards and Muses, but I'm back with April and it's the perfect way to reboot the old grey matter, especially after dealing with cabin fever and a poorly boy.

Things I'm loving:

// Coffee. OK this is not really a surprise to anyone who follows my Instagram feed as I don't function with out  three  one to start the day! In fact I've started a #stylemycoffee hashtag and a @stylemycoffee Instagram account, so I can see all you lovely lot enjoying a brew and share it with a coffee loving community. I'll be doing a whole post on this new project, which I hope you'll join in with.

// Embroidered Patches. Yep you know the ones that you used to collect as a kid and patch up your denim with? Well these are coming back with a bang – or it might just be me? – either way I'm loving it! Whether you're buying a pre-designed jacket from the high street or collecting your own to customise your fave, it's definitely on my cool list, especially when it looks like this.

// Snapchat! Yep I'm getting down with the kids and having so much fun with this little app. You can take video snippets, pics and private messages with filters/stickers and generally have a giggle. I'm pretty much on there everyday giving a sneak peek into our general day to day living –as in real life *shock horror* and blogging events. Things I'm Not:

// Seaworld. Not sure if this one needs to be spelt out, as the bad press on this awful company is everywhere, but I recently saw a flux of bloggers promoting this place and it made me feel really sad that we would use our influence in this way. Seaworld is appalling, their treatment of the Orcas is appalling – so much so that it's recently ceased it's breeding programme due to public backlash and loss of profits since the airing of Blackfish. Really It needs to be shut down, and if you want to know more about their bad practises then please watch Blackfish Documentary or have a read of Jess's post. Enough said. 

Other Things:

// I'm back with some Instagram love and who's been inspiring me recently, and they are a fab bunch if I do say so myself! This month I've been drawn to those rather gritty grainy accounts with girl attitude and rebel vibes *swoon* and I'm loving Design Love Fest's new hashtag #sweetdreamsDLF for all things creative.

What's April got instore for you?

CELEBRATE INTERNATIONAL WOMEN'S DAY

Today is International Women's Day, a day where we celebrate the social, economic, cultural and political achievement of women. A day where we say well done for all you've achieved for us. Woman kind. 

So here's a little poem I jotted down to celebrate everything you are and to say let's be proud of ourselves, in every which way we come, we are amazing *nothing like a little self love on a Tuesday* ;) I am constantly bowled over by the amazing strong and talented women I meet every day, who I talk to, who I see struggle and carry on anyway. So this is dedicated to all you amazing women doing it your way. 

To all the movers, the makers, the hustlers, the shakers, 

To those who shout loud, who stand strong, and when needed those who quietly move on, 

To those who build empires, move mountains, push boundaries, 

raise babies, make memories and refuse to take no for an answer. 

You are the ladies paving the way for a new generation who are ready to play. 

Stand tall and stand proud for all that you are, 

Not what media says you should be or could be, 

but the you that is here, standing now and amazing.

MOODBOARDS AND MUSES 02

The short month of love is here *ahhh* and although it was only been a few week since I posted my first Moodboard and Muses, I'm quite keen to pop another one up and keep up the momentum in mustering up some much needed motivation, plus I'm really enjoying making these little collages.

Things I'm loving:

// Succulents. Yep bringing in some green to the home is certainly on my to do list in an attempt to shoo away the grey and fake spring. Also excited to hear about the plans for an Urban Jungle Bloggers Book!

// Water. OK that's sounds a bit random, but after drowning myself in coffee to pull me through Jan, I'm realising that my skin isn't looking so great and a good dose of hydration is needed. That plus a decent moisturiser/foundation would sooth the skin and I'm loving this organic range.

// Quotes. I'm really into inspirational quotes at the moment and pretty much sticking them at eye level around my home to give me some get up and go. I've ordered this print as a Valentines gift and planning to put it above the bed. What do you think? 

// Holograms. No I'm not talking back to the future, more holographic fabrics and fashion. I know I'm a little late to the party with this being more of a 2013/14 thing, but oh how the shimmery style has caught my eye! I'm definitely looking for some fun pumps to make my feet happy and this fun tee has just dropped in my shopping cart too ;)

Things I'm Not:

// Dungarees. OK this is a lie, I LOVE dungarees but finding a pair that fit me is like a quest for the Holy Grail, and it's driving me nuts! If you have any recommendations then please throw let me know. 

Other Things:

// I wanted to share who's been inspiring me on Instagram recently and who I'd definitely include in my February muses. These ace ladies snap stunning pics and create beautiful feeds, all with different styles and shot from various locations around the world. It's where I get my daily dose of heart eyes.

MOODBOARDS AND MUSES 01

Hello lovelies, I'm back from the silence and have even made a little snippet/vlogging debut here explaining why I've been MIA. Well I've decided to press the reset button on January and embrace a little do-over and wanted to start off with a 'what's inspiring me' post with a new monthly series called Moodboards and Muses – I hope you like. I've decided to pull together images, words, colours, patterns – you name it – all into one place and use it as my go to when I'm feeling a little low on creativity, and I'll be using the #moodboardsandmuses hashtag over on Instgram of you fancy joining in. yay :)

Things I'm loving:

// Rings. Rings. Rings! all sorts of them and I seem to have quite a few on rotation at the moment. I'm loving the collections over at A Weathered Penny, & Other Stories and Bing Bang NYC at the moment.

// Grey and Pink tones. I am all over them, OK when am I not? but the soft colour combo is definitely my winter wardrobe staple and I've got my eyes on this beauty in the sale from Whistles.

// Tunes. Yep since the arrival of Sonos into our home, just like a bad date, the TV is a distant memory and music fills the air and kitchen disco's ensue. This bad boy allows you stream and play any music from the Internet and create play lists using it's own app or spotify. I'm in love!

// Cinema dates. Forget the endless hours in a busy bar, propped up by the crowds waiting to be heard over all the loud. This month I've ditched the drab and instead been spending my pounds on a good film finished with tapas and wine, ready to dissect and digest the latest visual feat. This week's top films have been Room (one word. Amazing!) and Joy.

Things I'm Not:

// Bad coffee. OK so there's not much causing a bee in my bonnet, but recently there's been a bout of bad coffee being served. I'm talking luke warm, too much froth and as it's one of my only indulgences, it's starting to drive me a bit loopy. Barrister please be good.

Other Things:

// Following Pantone's lead with Rose Quartz amongst other colours to trend this season, I'm loving these pink interior touches and wondering whether my bedroom would suit these hues.

At the minute I'm really into outdoor spaces and with dreams of warmer weather, I'm looking at how to bring the outdoors into the home and getting ready to enjoy a cocktail or two. I'm looking forward to joining in with Urban Jungle Bloggers this year and Styling the Seasons.

As well as images from around the web, I'm going to be mixing in my own pics and words, things that I want to try, things that work, things that don't and things I generally love, I also hope to find some new inspiring IG feeds to follow and take a peek at in the process.

What's getting you through the January Blues?

CREATIVE CHILDREN'S SPACES // A GOOD BOOK & INTERIOR INSPIRATION

Occasionally I'll get an email that brings a smile to my face and makes my heart soar, especially when it combines some of my favourite things, and that's exactly what happened when I was asked to  peek inside the pages of Creative Children's Spaces by the super talented Ashlyn Gibson, who I've had the pleasure of working with both online and in real life.

When we first got the keys to this little flat of ours, during the two week transition period of packing boxes and loading vans, I would head out into the night, laden down with paints and brushes leaving my four month old bundle of warmth milked up at home under watchful eyes, and spend hours washing walls, filling crack and painting soothing colours on the room my boy would call home.

It was such a labour of love getting his room just right and as my passion for interiors and design has grown, so has my kiddo. As he starts the transition into school life I find myself challenging the way I see his space, how to make it fun, creative and practical while maintaining his character. I wanted a stylish environment that could grow with F and as I make lists and plans, I feel this book is holding my hand all the way.

HARPTREE COURT WITH CANOPY & STARS

Ever wondered what it would be like to sleep under the stars, curling up in a colourful gypsy caravan or high up in the branches of giants? DESIGN YOUR OUTDOOR SPACE // INSPIRATION

We're back from our travels and after a taking a little break from the blog I'm finally getting back into the swing of things as I sit in front of the gazillion emails waiting for me. After spending most of the week outdoors I wanted to share some outdoor space inspiration. As some of you might remember we live in a flat over in Bristol sans garden, which unfortunately means no outdoor space for us. Now normally I don't mind this sort of thing but after staying in an artist studio for a week, with doors that open out onto a garden with your own seating area and chairs to lounge in after hours, I'm starting to see what all the fuss is about.

Sitting outside, reading a book, wrapped in a blankets as it gets dark, gazing at the stars while sipping hot coco *sigh* yep having an outdoor space has suddenly grabbed my attention and has me pining for an open pit fire to toast marshmallows on and while away the evening hours. So I've started creating a wish list in the hopes it will somehow cosmically send a garden my way when flat hunting.

I do love a bit of accessorising and being able to buy for a whole new space could potentially be very exciting, so here are my favourites pieces from online interior store Love the Design to get me garden ready:

1. How cool would this geometric mirror look on a bare brick wall or wooden slats and reflect the light.
2. I've always wanted one of these statement chairs, I love the style and they come in so many colours plus are pretty durable in any weather.
3. I love making cocktails and this cool tray would be the perfect way to serve friends.
4. Having candles are a great way to transform a space and create a lovely ambiance and these glass candle holders are ace!
5. For those cooler nights a super warm and cosy throw would be fab to curl up in.
6. Totally loving this fun pink crystal jug to entertain with, it reminds me of parties from when I was a kid.
7. For the ultimate outdoor space accessory look no further than this hammock *swoon* I pretty much spent all my evening in a hammock when in France.
