IS THE TERRAZZO TREND DEAD?

The interior world is a funny place where style and design come together in a big mixing pot of consumerism and culture, all vying for attention. After reading my pal Sarah's post it got me thinking about current trends and how we are influenced everyday in a bid to create our dream home. I'm not one to jump on a bandwagon when it comes to trends, yes I can say I do like a botanical print but Pantone greenery? Yep that's not really my bag *soz Pantone no offence. For me an eclectic mix is one full of fun, design classics that have stood the test of time and the occasional must have item that you spot in your fave magazine.

As much as trends change and your tastes develop, home is a sanctuary that should reflect the best of you. So here's the big question here on my mind,  is the Terrazzo trend dead? Erm NO. Now some might argue that it hasn't been back on trend since it fell out of popularity in the 70's with it conjuring images of 50's style dinners and granny flats, but this beautiful durable solid flooring is a design classic and if it's good enough for 15th Century Venetians then it's good enough for me.

I love seeing this material pop up on Pinterest in the most beautiful hues and patterns as architects embrace the versatility of this timeless classic. For those not familiar with Terrazzo is traditionally made with small marble chips that have been poured into cement base, ground flat and coated with a sealer, but with the joys of modern technology you can now find slabs made with mother of pearl, metallic, marble, glass and all sorts of interesting materials making it totally swoon worthy!

I'm not really that fussed whether something is on trend, it's more about how I relate to the object. Is it interesting? Inspiring? Beautiful? Tactile? Durable? If I've invested time and money into it the chances are the answer is yes.

So here is a shout out to one of my fave materials, the humble Terrazzo. For me you'll always be on trend.

I HAVE THIS THINGS WITH FLOORS // LAMINATE FLOORING

Pale Laminate Flooring from Carpetright in Lounge
If you're a long time reader of my little corner of the internet you'll know that I have this thing with floors. Whenever I'm out and about you'll always find me snapping pics of interesting patterns, tiles and flooring that I find down by my feet. I'm also a huge fan of the scandinavian interiors, especially the pale coloured floors that appear in glossy magazines and fill up my pinterest feed.

Capetright laminate flooring

Our flat is carpeted throughout, with the exception of lino in the kitchen, and as I've been eager to spruce up our lounge for a while now I excitedly pulled back the carpet to reveal our floorboards. My heart sank a little as I realised that it would take quite a lot of work and money to get them into a decent condition and have them on show. So when I saw these shots of lovely light flooring I decided to research a little further and saw that Laminate flooring might be an option.

I'm not sure why this hadn't crossed my mind before! There are so many different styles and colours to choose from, plus it's cost effective and easy to lay. I think I might have found a solution to my sea of carpet, I can just imagine this Kensington Loft White in our lounge which looks exactly like the flooring in our Airbnb flat in Copenhagen. Just think of all the beautiful rugs you could choose to create a cool interior *swoon*.

I'd love to hear what flooring floats your boat?

FLOOR DESIGN AND RUG LUST // INTERIOR INSPIRATION

white floor design with natural woven rug

I've been really lusting for something cosy beneath my feet, I love interesting floor design and my heart always sinks a little when I come home to our beige carpeted lounge which does nothing to hide the multitude of markings made by our four year old.

An easy solution to liven up any room is to pick a stylish rug using either a bold pattern, a block colour, or a rug with an interesting pile. However the old rug on carpet faux pas makes this one a bit tricky for our home. I have a friend who has somehow managed to make it look great by choosing a huge floor rug which covers most of the room, but as I still long for scanidnavian white washed wood flooring in our lounge all I can do is look at these dreamy designs and pin some floor design inspiration.
