BEAUTIFUL FLOOR INSPIRATION

I have this thing about floors, where people might coo and aah over plush furnishings one of the first thing my eyes dart to is the floor beneath my feet. No matter where I am I can find beauty in the flooring below, whether it's a poured concrete floor on a staircase, parquet flooring in a hallway, tiles in a cafe, I love taking pics, pinning pics and making a mental notes of what looks good for future reference and when the day comes for me to lay my own.

In my previous flat I had old tattered floorboards with nail heads poking up and gaps between the boards, I longed for the comfort of a carpet, with a crawling babe it was what I craved the most and as much as I tried to cover the boards in rugs, F found a way to pour the contents of my purse through a crack or scrape his knee on a misplaced nail. So we moved to a flat with a sea of carpet, beige as far as the eye could see. F loved his new crawling space and the cosy underfoot in winter but to be honest I'm looking back at those floorboards with rose tinted glasses, the spills and pen scribbles of a toddler are a constant reminder as to why beige carpets are not the best idea.

I love a lot of the the scandinavian interiors, the clean crisp lines, beautifully designed furniture and thought out spaces. When we booked our trip to Copenhagen a few years ago and I scoured Air B and B and drooled over the apartments with their perfectly pale laminate flooring and beautiful textured rugs that lay upon them. I would love to have the lounge and hallway laid with this and accentuate it with copper plant stands and wicker foot stools.

In the bathroom or dining room I like the idea of poured concrete, something so beautifully raw about it, especially as you can get a polished or coloured finish and use a beautiful rug like Armadillo and Co to give personality to the space.

In the kitchen I love eclectic tiles with striking colour and pattern. The kitchen to me is the heart of the home, its where food to nourish the soul is made, where steaming coffee to waken the mind is brewed and where I like best to hang out.

What is your favourite flooring for the home?

  1. We have laminate downstairs with rugs on top and I do quite like the fact you can give it a good regular mop rather than having loads of muck walked into the carpets, especially by the kids. I LOVE those blue tiles - stunning!

  8. We have a very good quality wide board laminate in our ground floor. It is ace and eight years after laying looks as good as new (it cost more than a wood floor would have). I too like the idea of poured concrete for the kitchen area

  9. I LOVE those tiles, we have laminate downstairs and carpet upstairs which despite me wanting I now actually want to get rid of it. Carpet is great because it's warm but it's hard to clean and like you said if it's light it just gets dirty! x

  10. love all these rooms! we have horrible brown carpets here and i hate them. the landlord put them down before we moved here and we can't afford to get something nicer. i personally really love tiles so that's something i'd be looking for if i had the choice! i really love a good rug too.

  11. A lovely variety of choices there. I do love laminate flooring - it is so practical with my boys too. We have a dark wood look effect.

  12. ugh... our rented house has carpets and I hate them! If we weren't planning on moving soon-ish I'd be ripping them up and putting in laminate or something. Love real floorboards!

  14. We've got an awful cream carpet downstairs in our home that has seen better days, I can't wait to replace it with something better

  15. We had laminate in our old house and I loved how easy it was to keep clean. This new house already had a cream carpet in the living room so we decided to keep it to save on costs.
I'm really wishing we'd put laminate down again. We've only been here a few months and already the carpet looks terrible and we're both regretting the decision to keep it.

  18. I am desperate for some nice floor in our lounge, we've got such a grubby carpet and I so want a floor like those top two photos with the beautiful wooden floorboards!

  19. We have vinyl flooring that looks like wood in the lounge which is kind to small people as padded and warm, but looks like wood for us

  20. Seriously how beautiful are all of these inspirational photos. All I want is wooden exposed floors - we grew up in a house that had wooden flooring throughout and it feels so warm and natural under your feet. My mothers house has exposed wooden floors but in our house it's juts not possible. I do love the blue tiles as well!

    Great post
