DECORATE WITH TILES // INTERIOR INSPIRATION

Image via super talented Brydie Mack

One of my favourite things to do when I have a spare minute is to flick through Interior Design books or scroll through beautiful interior images that make Pinterest a great source of inspiration. It's great seeing how so many different styles can work so well and I am always pinning ideas incase the time comes to decorate my own space.

Growing up we always had tiles in our home, whether it was grey slate flooring or a simple subway tile, they were a staple feature in our kitchen and bathroom, and I always dreamed of underfloor heating and warm tiles underfoot. I've always assumed I would follow suit when it comes to using them in my own home, tiling the usual places, but recently I've been inspired to think outside the box so to speak. I love these inspirational images, showing some amazing interior style all decorating with tiles.

At the moment our kitchen is seriously lacking – I'm talking no splashback.. nothing!  Every little thing can mark the paintwork and I'm forever touching up the walls and even though we rent I'm seriously considering paying for the kitchen to be tiled myself. Does that sounds crazy? Do you have tiles in your home?

BEAUTIFUL FLOOR INSPIRATION

I have this thing about floors, where people might coo and aah over plush furnishings one of the first thing my eyes dart to is the floor beneath my feet. No matter where I am I can find beauty in the flooring below, whether it's a poured concrete floor on a staircase, parquet flooring in a hallway, tiles in a cafe, I love taking pics, pinning pics and making a mental notes of what looks good for future reference and when the day comes for me to lay my own.

In my previous flat I had old tattered floorboards with nail heads poking up and gaps between the boards, I longed for the comfort of a carpet, with a crawling babe it was what I craved the most and as much as I tried to cover the boards in rugs, F found a way to pour the contents of my purse through a crack or scrape his knee on a misplaced nail. So we moved to a flat with a sea of carpet, beige as far as the eye could see. F loved his new crawling space and the cosy underfoot in winter but to be honest I'm looking back at those floorboards with rose tinted glasses, the spills and pen scribbles of a toddler are a constant reminder as to why beige carpets are not the best idea.

WHERE YOU WASH // SMALL BATHROOM INTERIORS

There's one space that always gets neglected in our flat, probably because it's so small with little natural light and that it serves more of a function than a calm space to relax in. Yep the bathroom, it certainly gets a raw deal from us and yet it should be a place of style and tranquility, how often do you read how beneficial a relaxing soak in the tub is or how heavenly a rain shower head looks in those glossy magazines? It's no wonder that I like to take my time when staying at nice hotels, reading in a free standing bath or spending an age in the shower letting my troubles wash away.

Good design should run throughout the home, every space should be thought out, practical and pleasing to the eye, your bathroom should be a haven whether it's used as splash time for the kids or your gentle wake-up morning routine. I've always thought about building my own home, how the bathroom would have great views, light streaming in, a walk in wet room and not to mention a cabinet basin that I can actually use unlike our teeny one. However even a small bathroom can be beautiful with careful planning and so I find myself pinning inspirational interiors for future reference incase I one day renovate my home or buy abroad.
