A WEEKEND AT COUNTRYFILE LIVE WITH JOULES

I can't believe it's only been a few weeks ago that I was wandering around the delights of CountryFile Live Festival with Joules but it already seems like a lifetime ago. We have been non stop on the go from Blenheim Palace to the Scottish Highlands and then Greenman Festival in Wales celebrating Paul's 40th before collapsing back on the sofa two days ago. I think I'm ready for a nap! However I couldn't wait to share these pics from our weekend away with Joules as we had sooo much fun and I was really surprised how quickly we took to country life ;)

We arrived in the midst of a thunder storm, like all best festivals start, but thankfully Joules had kitted us out with our wellies, raincoats , this gorgeous bright yellow jacket for Felix and some great pieces to keep us cosy while we took shelter feasting on veggie burgers and planning what to explore first.

I have never been to the CountryFile Live before and wasn't sure what to expect, so I was super impressed to see how kid friendly it was! We knew we wanted to check out the dog shows as the kiddo is still asking for a puppy, the birds of prey, and a few of the talks but I didn't realise they had soooo much to do. Thankfully we had two days to explore otherwise we definitely would have missed out on the farm animals, kayaking, vintage fairground, shopping and fun festival food experience.

After grabbing some candyfloss and trying our hand at Hook a Duck, we stopped off to watch the woodcutter finals – think burly guys with chainsaws and tree trunks – before we headed off to check the dog jumps just as the sun came out. Felix was so smitten that we ended up watching it twice and he was even invited into the arena to hold the jumps with some other kids while the dogs raced around *proud mama moment* and I happily sat and ate churros with my gorgeous Darby Leather Saddle Bag at hand, while Paul rocked his Retreat Quilted Jacket, coffee and this cute shirt!

We spotted a few of the CountryFile TV presenters filming some shots and Felix even got to make a seed bomb with Ellie Harrison. This is actually a great activity for little ones, just get some compost and soil, mix in a bowl, add a sprinkle of water and mix in wild flower seeds before using your hands to pat into a ball. Then pop in a plastic bag and seal ready to bring some colour into your garden or local areas. We left ours on the mantelpiece while we were away and it's already started to sprout!

On the second day the sun came out to stay and I finally got to wear my new Westbourne Leather Chelsea Boots in the safe knowledge that they wouldn't get muddy! I also picked out this amazing whippet top which beautifully covers the bump and wore it with this gorgeous Joules coat, perfect for this transitioning weather. I had so many of you asking me for details over on Instagram so be sure to check this beauty out.

The grounds of Blenheim Palace are so beautiful with a huge lake and winding stream as well as acres of land, where all of the stall holders and arenas were located. We did a spot of shopping and I headed back to Joules to pick up these Jogging bottoms for the kiddo.

Felix wanted to go and see the pigs, calves and rabbits and there was a huge area dedicated to livestock and sustainable farming, as well as fun tractor rides for kids. Oh and I mustn't forget the vintage fairground games, we spent the afternoon watching Punch & Judy, playing gnome hoopla, skittles and having a good giggle.

It's funny seeing how much our boy is a country kid at heart and so not the city slicker like me. He thrives in nature, loves animals so much and even asked if we could move to the countryside. I did consider whether I could give up the cafes, art house cinemas and the bustle of the city for a more rural adventure but think it's not quite the right time yet for our little family just yet. However we'll definitely be coming back next year to get our CountryLife fix, even if it's just to watch the dog shows again.

You can check out all our other festival adventures here!

  3. Looks like a real celebration of all the best bits about the countryside. I can't imagine you leaving Bristol just yet either but it's nice to get out of the city sometimes for a break. You're looking well lovely - great coat! xx

  4. Nothing like an old country fair. I used to love these as a kid. Who am I kidding? I still do hahaa. Love your photos and I seriously need that "Awesome" shirt in my life. Also, I've never heard of cotton candy referred to as candy floss. Learn something new everyday :)

  6. I really wanted to visit Blenheim Castle when I was in England, but sadly missed it due to lack to comfortable connectivity! The festival looks super cool and your kid seems to be enjoying everything so much!!!
