FAIRTRADE FELT BALL RUGS FOR THE HOME

Although we haven't got the wooden floors I constantly dream of in our flat, it doesn't stop me lusting after beautiful rugs to transform my space. We recently had the flooring in our hallway, bathroom and kitchen replaced after a water pipe went haywire *hello lovely new floor* and as much as a rug wouldn't be practical in these spaces, it didn't stop me lusting over beautiful pieces online.

I am a huge fan of artisan products, independent stores, interesting stories and anything that helps the people often forgotten about in the manufacturing process. So when I was approached by Sukhi I was intrigued by the company's values and mission to only engage in fairtrade practices with artisans abroad.

Each eco-friendly Felt Ball Rug is handcraft and each is one composed of hundreds or thousands of little hand-rolled and sun-dried balls made out of pure wool using only natural dyes. The Nepalese artisans makes each and every felt rug by hand, and as they are available in so many colour combinations you to match it to your interior design tastes.

As I'm all about the Scandi style, I picked out the Sunita Rectangle Ivory Grey Felt Ball Rug and I was happy to wait a while for delivery knowing that my rug was being handmade, and I loved the addition of the label showing the woman that put the love and dedication into this piece for my home, in fact if you click here you can see the lovely Radhika Lama who made our rug.

I really love the colour combination in each individual felt ball and love the overall feel of this hand stitched rug. I tried the rug on the new flooring to see how it would look an immediately F took a shine to it, saying it felt 'super comfy and warm' and he may have coveted it for his room now as he loves putting his bare feet on it in the morning.

I'm also really happy that the workshops in which these woman work, earn roughly 2 to 3 times the average salary for the area, making me feel like I've invested into their community and help support fair working standards in Kathmandu. Below is a short video about the making process and I would definitely take a peek, I'm always in awe of people who can create such beautiful products!

Sukhi is a social enterprise that sells high-quality, design rugs. Each rug is a beautiful piece of art that is handmade by our artisans in Nepal, Turkey, India, and Morocco. I can't wait to chek out their new pieces and have my eye on this one.

I was really pleased to work with such a fab company in creating a rug for me to showcase on the blog and spread the good word. Do you support eco-friendly fairtrade products?

*I was sent a rug for review purposes only. All words and thoughts are my own.

  1. This looks lovely and cosy, it's nice to have a rug that is substantial enough that it doesn't buckle and you can be as comfy on the floor as on the sofa! xx

  10. I love the sound of this - there's nothing like that tactile sensation of getting up and putting bare feet into something which feels lovely. The fact it's Fairtrade as well is wonderful.
