NEW OFFICE CHAIR AND CREATING A SMALL WORKSPACE AT HOME

It's back to school and back to work I go! Even though I took a bit of a break from the blog to enjoy every minute of this little girl of mine, I didn't officially take any maternity leave/pay so I've been juggling the side hustle. Now we're on the flip side of six months and the purse strings are feeling a bit tight, I'm trying to get myself organised and put in a strategy in place for the next six to twelve months. What better way to get your work on then creating a small workspace with a new office chair.

Being organised is no mean feat, especially when it's not one of my strong points, and turns out snatching time to work between Romi's naps, feeds, school run – I won't even mention the summer holidays – and general life with a baby is tricky at its best. I'm so grateful for the flexibility and freedom of working from home.

Now for some getting giddy over an office chair and workspace is hard to imagine, but I never need an excuse to share interior inspo or style a space up. When Houseology got in touch and asked whether I would be interested in a Humanscale Office Chair, I was like hmmm office chair? Is this something that is interesting for me and you guys? Then I laid my eyes on it and it was like Hell Yes! It's not often you find something so practical that looks so sexy and is ALSO super comfortable. I knew this was going to be the perfect answer to creating a little nook at home and get me working like a boss.

So far our bedroom has been redesigned and showcased in a few magazines, then overhauled again as Romi entered our lives and I needed to rethink the space to accommodate a small nursery *post to come on this soon* and now like the seasons it has transitioned again into a midway point between bedroom, nursery and now, workspace. Thank god we have an over sized bedroom is all I can say.

Normally I'd be slouching on the sofa with my Macbook balanced on my lap or hunched over the dining table, that with constantly carrying Romi on my hip my back feels shot.

WHY CHOOSE THE HUMANSCALE DIFFRIENT WORLD OFFICE CHAIR?

I've been using this chair for about seven weeks now and the innovative tri-panel mesh backrest that provides custom back and lumbar support is a game changer! The innovative design uses the laws of physics and your own body's weight to automatically provide the right amount of recline every time. Its groundbreaking mechanism-free recline action leverages two parts of the chair’s frame to provide automatic, balanced support throughout the full range of motion for maximum support. Clever ay! Goodbye backache.

The slick minimal design is also lightweight and looks uber chic whether in an office or home. It was super simple to assemble and I love that I can comfortably move around when working knowing that I'm giving my back all the support it needs, especially when I have a small person climbing all over me!

All elements of the chair are almost invisible, from the adjustable armrest function to the height lever, the design allows it to be practical yet slick in appearance. This is what makes it a win for both the office and a home.

CREATING A SMALL WORKSPACE AT HOME

Whether you're looking to create a tiny work hub or an all out office space in your spare room, don't skip on the essentials. I find that a minimal tidy space works best for keeping your mind clear and creative. these are my must haves when designing a creative work space:

  • A comfortable chair is a must if you're planning on long stints at the computer, but don't forget to take a break and stretch your legs every now and again.
  • I always look for simple storage solutions, whether it's a desk with drawers or hidden shelves, or box folders to hide the mess, keeping clutter at bay can go a long way.
  • If you haven't got room for a desk, choose furniture that can double up as a desk space or make use of fold down tables, chunky shelves and window ledges. the most common area to create a micro office space is under the stairs. Any dead space in the home has potential to become your new office.
  • Stay inspired. I love keeping inspirational magazines to hand, using a moodboard to get my ideas out of my head and a whiteboard that I can check tasks off as I go along. Gommoodboard.com is a great online way of creating an online collection of images as well as Pinterest. Or you can always go down the traditional route of tearing pages out of magazines and keeping them in arms reach.
  • Remember going back to school and choosing new stationary? Well embrace your inner stationary geek chic with some new tools to get you going. I love Papersmiths for all  things stationary, plus nothing motivates you more than having a good weekly planner and pens to tick off those goals.

  1. Wow, it's so rare to see an office chair that's not hideously chunky and standard black, isn't it? Love your office corner! I have one too but sit on an old kitchen chair - I should look for a better alternative really! x
