Yes I'm finally allowing myself to mention the C word, in fact I've already broken into the mince pies! shhh. Every year I get so excited in the build up to Christmas, what with all the hot chocolates, singing carols, decorating the tree and of course meeting Santa Claus it's hard not to. I've been thinking about what makes Christmas Eve special, and although we have our little traditions, I've realised that it might look a little different being 8 months pregnant!
It's funny how my little family has taken on its own festive traditions. When I was little it was all the excitement of meeting Santa Claus with my mam, dashing out for last minute presents, tucking into a very 80's style buffet and settling down to watch It's a Wonderful Life together. Just look at my chubby cheeks in this pic!
Now I have a little family of my own, we have settled into a new routine and it feels nice to know that Felix will grow up with these lovely childhood memories. We start with a morning walk, lunch out with family (ideally somewhere with a roaring fire), meeting friends at a local carol service, before heading home to a buffet *I just can't resist* and getting cosy in our new Christmas pyjamas to watch a super festive film before putting the kiddo to bed.
We actually had a 4D scan of our new little bundle who will be joining us after the the festivities are over, just look at her little face! She was rather cross at being poked by the lady trying to get a decent picture. The reality is at 8 months my energy levels are going to be a little lower than normal, so I'm hoping to take it slow on the big day and relax. The perfect excuse to be pampered a little.
This Christmas Eve I'm hoping to have a bit of a lie in, maybe read some stories in bed with the kiddo before taking a slow walk and staying local for lunch. After the carol service I want to head home and get cosy and bake some festive treats to take to my folks house on Christmas day. Normally my go to recipe are these Poppyseed and Gingerbread Festive cookies or these Woodland Butter Biscuits and I love decorating the table for a Scandinavian Inspired Christmas.
I've already indulged in some new Christmas Pyjamas from Marks & Spencers as part of their #MyMarks campaign. They are from their maternity range and it feels oh so good to get cosy at home in something that actually fits the bump. I think everyone is a little jealous that they have to wait until Christmas Eve to get theirs in their Christmas box.
The only thing I can honestly say I will really miss this Christmas is my glass of Sherry that we have every year *sigh* so instead I am going to have find a good mocktail or two to get the festive feeling going. Oh and the cheese, yes the baked Camembert box will certainly be missed but I'm planning on swapping it for a small box of roses.

DeleteI was eight months pregnant with Dylan at Christmas and I definitely used it as an excuse to take it very easy. In fact chilled out, low key christmasses are my favourite anyway. So exciting to think you’ll be getting an extra special late Christmas present though! x
ReplyDeleteLovely PJs Lori and your place is starting to look wonderfully festive xxx
