AT THE CHAPEL // BRUTON

After months weeks of trying to sort out a last minute family getaway and failing spectacularly, we decided to take a one night mini break in the pretty village of Bruton, which is apparently the place to be according to Vogue. So we packed our overnight bags drove to the beautiful At The Chapel, a hotel that had been on my radar for some time.

My first impressions of this sleepy village could not have been more wrong as nestled amongst its houses is a gem of a hotel. As I wound my way down the spiral staircase I found myself transported from the rural english countryside to ranch club house chic, where cow hides adorn the floor and chairs, tones of grey marble and stacked stone columns guard the room, while light pours in from discreet doors leading to an outdoor terrace where the chapel towers overhead and blooms caress the boundary walls.

We were shown to our room (number 3) and instantly sunk into our king size bed, while F bounced around excitedly. The meticulously thought out minimalist interior has a calming effect while showcasing the original architecture and art hung around the chapel. Oh and don't get me started on the bath tub! Big enough for all three of us to easily splash around in or perfect for a peaceful soak for one which I attempted to enjoy before a little person wanted to join me.

Situated in their onsite bakery at the front of the chapel, is the huge wood fired bread oven where delicious aromas invite you in from the street and an array of breads and pastry line the wall. If this doesn't wet your appetite – and it really should – the restaurant with its vaulted ceiling, raised gallery and stunning windows makes the perfect backdrop for a delicious dinner.

After eating we were faced with the age old dilemma of what to do when it comes to bedtime? Unfortunately the hotel does not have a baby listening service which *At the Chapel take note* would be super helpful for any parents who do not wish to be holed up in their room all evening, so after trying and failing to get our own baby monitor to work through the brick interior walls and a conversation with our super friendly waitress, we wrapped a sleeping F up in blankets and headed down to the club room with a pillow in tow.  Probably not our finest parenting moment but as it was cosy and quiet we took the risk to sneak a cocktail in before heading upstairs to our room.

Due to catching F's tummy bug from the day before I didn't have the best night's sleep, but was assured by the gentle snores that a deep and restful sleep was had by all. In the morning we woke to fresh croissants hanging from the front door, welcoming us to a new day. A girl could get used to this.

*We were given a discounted room for our stay. all view and opinions are my own.
