THE ATHENAEUM HOTEL // LONDON

mayfair londonwild & grizzlyNestled in the heart of Mayfair lies a luxurious home away from home, where design meets elegance, the staff welcome you like a long lost friend and the cocktails are delightful. A few weeks ago I had the absolute pleasure of staying at The Athenaeum Hotel with Fritha while attending the MAD Blog Awards in London, and oh boy what a treat. On arrival the legendary doorman Jim, made us feel at home and led us to the desk where we checked in and congratulated us on our nominations – I told you they were a friendly bunch – and we were shown out of the side door and walked a few feet to our apartment, sitting grandly amongst the street. I can see why Kim Kardashian and Kanye West chose the Athenaeum as a place to crash while in London, the apartment was beautiful with everything you might need for a stay in Mayfair. The Athenaeum hotel

We kicked off our shoes, dropped our bags and helped ourselves to the complimentary mini bar, because you need a G&T while getting ready right? Not only does the apartment have everything you would expect in terms of tea and coffee making facilities, it also comes with its own kitchenette cleverly disguised behind sliding mirrored doors with pots and pans so you can cook up a storm and enjoy it at your private dining table.

After a quick shower I must have spent a good 30 minutes lounging in their soft white robes, painting my nails, having a giggle and generally enjoying a bit of girly time while getting ready with Fritha before popping downstairs to the hotel bar for a cheeky glass of rose, before Jim hailed us a taxi and sent us on our way.

After a fun filled night at the awards we stumbled arrived back at the apartment around 2am ready to fall into our beds and enjoy a child free relaxing sleep on our heavenly beds. Annoyingly my maternal body clock kicked in and by 6.30am I was on the sofa sipping coffee and catching up on the nights events on twitter.

After packing our bags we headed downstairs for what can only be described as a truly delicious breakfast, with little glasses of fruit creme brûlée and muesli shots, fresh waffles and an array of hot dishes on the menu. I decided to stick with my favourite of Eggs Florentine followed with a soya latte and left with a very happy tummy. We both said it was a shame we didn't have room to try more of the menu as the food tasted so good and was is a little indulgence here and there.

Before we left there was time for a few final selfies – as you do – and then off to catch our train back to Bristol, saying farewell to our home away from home. If you are ever in London and fancy a taste of luxury I wouldn't hesitate in recommending The Athenaeum Hotel, the service was flawless. Thanks for having us.

*we were given a complimentary stay at The Athenaeum Hotel and a delicious breakfast to send us on our way.

  6. Isn't it always the way that when you have the chance of a child-free lie-in you wake up early? Still more chance to enjoy that gorgeous room. Girly, getting ready time in a swish hotel is one of life's pleasures. PS Congrats on the nominationxx
