We arrived and pitched out tent alongside the lovely Heather, Kat, Lottie and Sarah Lou on Friday, eager to get on site and explore the delights the festival had to offer and oh boy we weren't disappointed. We headed straight for the spellbound forest to try our hand at Lantern Making ready for the Lantern Parade on Saturday evening. We collected our willow branches and tape, chose a log near the fire and got creative, with F helping tape the branches together, willing them to hold their shape, before attaching the paper and leaving it swaying in the trees to dry. F was so proud holding it out in procession as we wound our way down through the woods, following the soft glow of lanterns before partying at the end of the trail to live music.
There were so many highlights to the weekend, the atmospheric sculpture, Shadowplay, which slowly turned as crowds swirled around it and peeked into the machine, the enchanting Arthur's Dream Boat which had F transfixed as the giant puppets took to the stage and caused squeals of delight from the crowd, snuggling under blankets for a evening showing of Bugsy Malone which ended with the lights being turned up and children running round with cream pies, and not to mention the Marvellous Imaginary Menagerie. This performance was by far my absolute favourite, the crowd roaring with laughter, children screaming in delight, it summed up the magic of the weekend.
Open air cinema, organised pillow fights, tribal contests, retro discos, a wandering Gruffalo, pirate training camp, fern headdress workshops, puppet shows, pigeon post, urchin clad mermaids, the elusive fairy queen, vintage circus jugglers, not to mention hearty festival food all serving child's portions. It's the stuff children's dreams are made of.
We were very kindly given complimentry tickets to attend Just So Festival and would love to thank Rowan and Sarah for the most magical time.
Our super fun socks were courtesy of Chatty Feet, and kept our toes warm and gave us a good giggle in the tent.
