MAKE YOUR OWN POM POM GARLAND

Last week F asked me to make him something for his room, something to give him happy dreams and to keep any bad dragons away. I have been meaning to make a dream catcher for a while now but as we had ten minutes to spare before heading out, I decided to make this super quick pom pom garland hoping it would do the trick. F picked out a few of his favourite sticks – we tend to have a stick pile in our house – and I got to work with some wool. A few pom pom's later and I was hammering the new good dream giver/pompom garland above his bed, F beaming at all the lovely new dreams he is going to have and me happy at how good it looks on the wall.

After sharing the snap on my Instagram feed, I had lots of lovely peeps get in touch asking how I made it so quickly, so I thought it would be fun to share and hopefully catch a glimpse of some of your creations.

You'll need:
Colour wool
A stick
Scissors
Pencil
Clover Pom Pom Maker

To make:

1. Choose your colour wool and open one side of you Clover Pom Pom Maker, holding onto the end of the wool with one finger wrap it around the open arm, covering the arm twice over. This will give you a fuller looking pom pom. Once covered, close the arm and cut the wool.

2. Repeat the same process on the other arm until that too is covered, close the arm and cut the wool. This process of covering will take you only a minute or two, it's super quick!

3. Now using the scissors cut along the middle of the wool wrapped around the arm, following the groove all the way around until the wool is splayed out on either side of the maker.

4. Cut a piece of wool around 20/25cm in length and tie it around the middle of the pom pom maker (where the groove is) pull tight and tie in a knot. Leave a long piece of the wool hanging to one side, you will need this to tie your pom pom to your stick.

4. Now open the arms on both side of the maker and pull apart. Your pom pom will fall out and you can shape it, making it round. Repeat this step two or three times depending on how many pom pom's you want hanging off your garland.

5. Take your stick and wrap a new piece of wool around the end, do this a few times and then place a pencil along the stick and wrap it around both once, before continuing to wrap it around the stick only –this will create the loop allowing you to hang it on your wall – tie in a knot and trim off any excess wool.

6. Continue the above step at the other end of the stick, creating two loops to hang your garland from.

7. Now space your pom pom's along the stick and arrange at various lengths before winding the wool onto the stick before tying a knot and trimming any excess wool off.

8. Hang in a great spot and admire your pom pom making skills.

Ta da, It's as simple as that, I would love to see any pom pom creations or other craft activity you're working on, just tag me
