It's easy as a creative and freelancer to get blogger burnout, where productivity hits a bit of a wall and you struggle for inspiration, or you keep saying yes to everything and then find yourself frazzled juggling it all. I often find I'm at my best when surrounded by a community of like-minded people to bounce ideas off, and although everyone is probably feeling that end of year tow *because let's be honest 2016 has been a bit of a bitch* I am so grateful to have such a wonderful group of inspirational people in this city.

AN EVENING WITH YONDER COLLECTIVE

When I think about why I love Bristol it's not hard to come up with a pretty long list; the architecture, the harbour, cool cafes and pop up restaurant, galleries and art house cinemas, and more all a stones throw from the countryside and a short-ish train ride to London. Yep Bristol has got it going ON! But the best thing about Bristol is the people, the community of creatives who all get together to support, share and inspire and that for me is gold!

STAY MOTIVATED AND INSPIRED IN SEPTEMBER
Waving goodbye to the summer holidays and packing of the kiddo's back to school, I'm not sure if it's just me but some of you might find the shift from a slightly relaxed routine to throwing yourself into work a little daunting? For all of you who are self employed/freelance/creative/full time stay at home super hero parent *delete as appropriate* trying to stay motivated and inspired in September can be hard work in itself. A shift in the seasons is coming and soon people will start whispering the jolly ole C word and oh where does the time go.....spiral spiral.

GET CREATIVE AND CONNECTED WITH HIIVE
I’ve always loved being creative, as a child I would spend hours drawing and painting, making sculptures, even starting a friendship bracelet business at the age of six with my childhood bestie. For me being creative isn’t a subject chosen to be studied but more of a way of life. So it made sense that I would go on to study graphic design and on my first day at uni we were asked to write down the job we’d be doing in five years time, only to be handed back to us at graduation. Surprisingly I didn’t quite manage to move to New York and design vinyl covers for a living but I am glad I had the passion for adventure even then.
When it comes to explaining my occupation as a blogger, unless I’m talking to other bloggers, someone who reads blogs, or a business, people look at me as if I’ve uttered a made believe word and don’t fully grasp what it means. But for me, working for myself, writing about things that inspire me and forging interesting partnerships are a real buzz and an important creative outlet, one I’m thankful I can do around childcare.
As with any creative career, it’s important to be connected with other like minded people, people who inspire, and over the last few years I've made some brilliant friendships through this blog. However when you first start out it’s hard to know who is listening. Are you just sending your thoughts out into an electronic abyss? What’s the point? It can feel pretty daunting and even isolating working from home.
Using a platform like Hiive allows you to plug into those creatively minded people, it’s a place that focuses on education, growing your skills, kick starting projects, starting collaborations and finding creative vacancies. It’s a place to get your creative foot on the ladder.
So what are my top tips for being creative?
1. Always keep a pen and notebook handy, and for those times you haven’t make notes on your phone. I’m always jotting down ideas and thought, even recording them with my iPhone if I’m on the school run.
2. Use Pinterest - This is an amazing tool, acting like an endless mood board to visually store inspirations.
3. Notice the small things. Normally we’re all too busy rushing around but it’s worth taking time to slow down and concentrate on the now. Take a minute to pause before that first sip of coffee and inhale the aromas, clear the mind and enjoy the senses. I find this helps me notice the small things all around me in the day to day.
4. Read/Watch/Listen to other people's work. If you want to write then read, make music then listen. Sometimes it’s better to step away from your own work and enjoy somebody elses to get the creative juices flowing.
5. Enjoy it. On those days your struggling to sketch that piece or write that post, then give yourself 15 minutes/an hour/the day off. I often find when I step away that’s when the best ideas surface.
These are the things that help me stay creative, it would be great to hear what inspires you? If you’re looking to kickstart your creative career or get involved with a fab creative community then head over to check out Hiive and join the swarm.

STYLE IN YOUR CITY // A NEW SERIES

It's no secret that I love Bristol, not only has it just been awarded European Green Capital 2015, but it's such a vibrant city and a great place to raise kids. Whether it's the creative quarter and street art of Stokes Croft, the beautiful Georgian architecture and tree lined streets of Clifton, the buzzing harbourside, the galleries, art house cinema, eclectic shops and huge coffee culture – which I swear I personally fund! – there's something for everyone. For me it holds a piece of my heart, it's the place I made great friends, made our home, gave birth to my boy, and the surroundings in which I watch him grow. I love exploring the city with F and even though I've lived here for almost seven years, it seems there is always something new to discover.I really enjoy sharing the places that inspire me both here and on Instagram and Twitter – I'm big on over sharing in case you hadn't noticed – and in a bid to discover new places I've teamed up with Fritha from Tigerlilly Quinn to start a new linky and see where you live and love.
So how does it work?
We want you to #StyleYourCity, to showcase the places you love, the coffee you drink, the fashion you wear, the street art you see, the people you meet, your finds for the home. We want to see your City/town/village through your eyes, we want to make a community which shares inspiration and creativity from all around and in turn, creates a cool directory of places to see and do.
We will be running a linky every two weeks and choosing a theme to inspire your finds. Don't worry you don't have to have a blog to join in or live in a bustling city for that matter, simply use the hashtag #styleinyourcity on twitter and/or IG with a photo and tag @wildandgrizzly and @tigerlillyquinn and we'll pick our favourites to showcase on our blogs.
You can find me on Instagram here and twitter here.
You can find Frith on Instagram here and twitter here.
This first theme is The Place I Call Home, tell us where you are and what it means to you. I can't wait to learn more and be inspired by you!
