The countdown is on with only a few days left to go until Christmas! Eek! If you're like me then you're probably squeezing your budget to find some last minute Christmas stocking fillers and make them look good. I love giving presents, but if there's one thing I love more, it's all the loving little touches that go into the wrapping to give them the wow factor. I headed to my local HomeSense store to pick up last minute affordable gifts, after all it's the thought that counts not the cost, and thought I'd share some of my wrapping style tips with you to get you ready for the big day.
*Family look away now as you might be in for a few spoilers ;)*
I always have a drawer at home filled with ribbons, twine, baubles, you name it, as I know they'll come in handy when it comes to gifts. I made sure I picked up some cool wrapping paper, I chose a gift wrapping pack by Maison En Papier that comes with 4 rolls, curling ribbon and bows (£6.99) and a pack of extra large pastel coloured tags, also by Maison En Papier (£2.99). Good basics are always a must! Next I tried to keep all my individual stocking fillers affordable so everything I picked up was under £5, HomeSense is perfect for finding cute products on a budget.
HOW TO CREATE STYLISH STOCKING FILLERS
BE BOLD AND COLOUR BLOCK
One of the easiest ways to create an impact is by choosing bold statement paper and colour blocking your gifts. For this simple stocking filler I chose: a hot pink colour block notebook (£3.99), a pink floral print Bando pencil case (£2.99), and a bar of the delicious Prestat Chocolate (£1.99) in a bright pink and blue wrapper *yum*, matching them together for my stationary loving relative. I chose a pink velvet ribbon for a touch of luxury to tie around the graphic print of the wrapping paper, and added a pink and gold foil tag.
This simple tip gives the appearance of a more luxury feel and is definitely pleasing on the eye. Perfect for any stocking hung by the fire.
BE INSPIRED BY NATURE
Another neat way to give your gift that something special is to go foraging outdoors, especially as this one is free! Nothing says Nordic inspired stocking filler than a sprig of Nordic Pine tree, fresh Holly Leaves or Red Christmas Berries entwined into your wrapping skills.
Rather than the usual parcel tie, I've looped some fine gold twine around the centre of the present to hold the red berries in place to give a simple but stylish effect. I've teamed the gold star paper with a gold tube of shortbread biscuits (£2.99) to be popped together as a gift.
CREATE YOUR OWN MINI HAMPER
For any beauty lovers this mini pamper hamper will go down a storm! I simply chose a luxury vanilla Christmas soap (£2.99), a natural wash mitt (£3.99) and an all important small frosted glass candle (£2.99) for those bath time vibes, and popped them in a small wired basket I had at home. By adding a few dried rose petals into the mix you have a full on spa gift!
You can literally make a mini hamper from anything, just pick three small items and get creative! Whether it's an old small wooden crate with shredded tissue or a ceramic dish full of goodies, think outside the box. Add a sprinkle of style with petals, glitter, confetti or any fun item you can find at home and let your inner creative shine through. Presenting this beautiful and affordable gift should get you all the brownie points.
MAKE YOUR OWN STATEMENT GIFT TAGS
This has to be my favourite of all mini Christmas DIY's as I love making personalised gift tags for my family, knowing that each one is unique and it shows the love that has gone into gifting. I bought a few empty baubles (20p each) and filled them with items that matched each family members interest. Alongside the eye catching baubles, I threaded a few small wooden beads onto traditional coloured twine and looped the ends so they can double up as Christmas tree decorations, rather than heading for the rubbish bin. They look so cute threaded through these brown tags, all tied up with string *cue Sound of Music* and go perfectly with a rustic coloured velvet ribbon! It makes even the most carefully budgeted stocking filler look like a little bit of luxury. I've teamed this up with a festive sweet tin (£2.99) in matching colours. I hope these stylish stocking fillers have given you some last minute gifts and wrapping ideas, I certainly have a few more presents to tick off my list! *Eek* I'm planning on finishing my last few bits tomorrow so I can fully enjoy the run up to Christmas! If you need some last minute options then HomeSense certainly have a affordable selection.
