We had such a great weekend in London that I thought I'd share my top 10 things to do in London with kids at Christmas – in case you're stuck for any last minute ideas. Some people think heading to the UK's busiest city might be a crazy family day out, but I really love the buzz and bustle during the festive holidays.
Ice Skating at Somerset House
Head down to London's coolest ice rink at Somerset House and enjoy skating amongst beautiful lights at night. Perfect for little ones and you can treat yourself to a cocktail, hot coco or a tasty Welsh Rarebit at the Fortnums lodge or Skate Lounge.
The Snowman at the Peacock Theatre

We took F to a matinee performance of The Snowman and I've never seen a child more excited. He watched in awe from start to finish and the whole of the theatre felt magical, especially when it snowed on the audience! The set was superb and there were cheers as the snowman and Santa came on stage. I would definitely recommend this to get you in the festive mood and bring a traditional Christmas story to life.
Christmas at Kew
Take a step away from the bustle and take a wander around the beautiful illuminated night walk amongst one of the UK's favourite gardens. With singing trees, fire light show, Santa's elves, wishing trees, musical fountain displays and Marshmallow fire pits this makes the perfect day out for all the family.
Check out London's Christmas Lights
Whether your walking down Regents St, Oxford St or the Strand, there's nothing better than the twinkling of London's Christmas lights to delight little ones, and if the crowds are too much then hop on a bus and sit at the top deck to get a great view.
Visit the Mistletoe lights in Covent Garden
High up in the rafters of Covent Garden's covered market is a disco ball and a whole lot of pretty, as the giant mistletoe lights have been installed to wow shoppers. Grab a snack from the market and listen to the street performers to get into the Christmas vibe.
Christmas at Hamleys Toy Store
If you're nerves – and wallet – can handle the experience then take your little one to the best place on earth for all toy lovers this Christmas, and step inside Hamleys toy store. Decorated top to bottom in all that is twinkly, your kiddo's will find it hard not to enjoy this type of window shopping.
Hogwarts in the Snow

Hyde Park Winter Wonderland
Pop down to Hyde Park to visit the Winter Wonderland with over 100 rides and attractions, as well as food markets and stalls to keep your little ones occupied this Christmas. Make sure to stop at the Magical Ice Kingdom where sculptures will make you go wow in delight.
Visit Christmas Tree and Lions at Trafalgar Square
Marvel at the wonderful Christmas tree gifted by our friendly Norwegians and let your little ones dance amongst the Lions at Trafalgar Square. F loved climbing up to say hi to the statues and running up and down the steps outside the Royal Academy. Best of all it's free!
Meet the Reindeer in Covent Garden
Surprise your little ones this Christmas and let them meet Santa's helpers as Pizza host a reindeer petting corner. After meeting these furry friends your kiddo will be super excited to leave out a carrot on Christmas Eve!
Whatever you do this weekend I hope you have a super special magical time with your little ones!
*Thanks to Saddlers Wells for tickets to the wonderful performance of The Snowman.
Oh I never realized how much there is to do with kids in the big city. I would love to take mine when they are a little bigger. I think Christmas big cities feels so magical a different kind of magic than it does when you spend it in the country. both amazing though. lovely round up hun
ReplyDeleteHow adorable is the reindeer! And hogwarts in the snow looks beautiful!
ReplyDeleteGreat list, I spent a couple of days in London doing Christmass-y things. I would've loved to have gone to see Hogwarts in the snow XO
