A SAN FRANCISCO BREAKFAST

The weekend started like most, with us venturing out for breakfast in the search for good food and strong coffee, as I'd been out dancing and *ahem* drinking the night before I was keen to fill myself up with goodness. A friend had recommended I try the newish kid on the block, Bakers & Co, knowing that I would love it and it didn't disappoint.

Owned by Imogen and Kieran Waite who opened the hugely successful Bravas a year and a half ago, this breakfast bar is nothing short of wonderful. As soon as we arrived I was immediately taken by the light and airy atmosphere with hints of happy yellow, the white washed wood wall and poured cement floor work harmoniously with the carefully placed hanging ferns and spot lighting throughout. This vibrant and uplifting space not only comes with great coffee to while away the time, but also food to delight the senses. Each day the sour dough bread is baked on site and chefs work in the open kitchen at the front of the cafe much to the excitement of F who loves to watch.

We sat by the window so we could watch the morning bustle of Gloucester Road pass by and I relaxed back into my chair and sipped on my soya latte before tucking into a heavenly breakfast of 'Huevous Rancheros' - Slow cooked pinto beans, corn tortilla, red and green salsas and a poached egg – it comes with a fried egg on the menu but poached is my absolute favourite.  I even managed to flick through the pages of my favourite magazines as F silently enjoyed one of the cakes on offer.

What I love about Bakers & Co is the research that has gone into making it great, unlike new ventures, the owners took a trip to San Francisco to see what makes the cafe culture tick across the pond and brought a slice of it back to Bristol. With full tummies we ordered peach & earl grey ice tea to go and strolled up to St Andrews park for some fun. What did you get up to this weekend?
