THE NOT SO GREAT BRITISH WEATHER

Being born and brought up near the coast as a child has left me needing the occasional sea air and a glimpse of blue waters fix. So yesterday we made plans to escape the city and head to the coast with a bucket and spade in hand. However we soon encountered a few problems;

1. Any really decent sandy beaches are at least a two hour drive from Bristol (no offence Weston-Super-Mare).
2. It wasn't really proving to be the sunny day I had envisioned.

We picked what looked like the suggestion of sand on our map and headed along the coast towards Burnham-on-Sea. After 20 minutes of "where's the beach? is it here?" coming from a slightly hyperactive F, we arrived at a booth and handed over a pricey £4 to be directed to the car park (note said car park was actually the beach). Now I'll be honest, I'm the first to complain about the weather if there is more than two consecutive days of rain/grey skies and after 15 minutes on a very cold, blustery, wet and somewhat littered beach, I cursed the not so great British weather and admitted defeat. Feeling a little deflated we bundled back in the car and headed home only for the sun to come out in full force as we neared the city. Spring sort it out!
