After following the winding Cornish roads we found the hotel perched above Mawgan Pawth Beach with the most breathtaking sea views. The hotel is a mix of contemporary design with pops of colour, punctuated with artwork and all designed with families in mind. On check in we headed down to the Spa, swimming wear in hand, ready for the Sensory Spa Garden experience, an outdoor treatment that takes you on a thermal adventure, going from hot to cold and back again to stimulate your senses.
As we entered the small oasis by the sea we were warmly met by a member of staff who guided us though our Sensory Spa Garden journey and explained how we would be embracing the great outdoors. The hotel has spent time developing a space that not only allows you to discover the benefits of thermal therapy, but has combined it with the restful lull of the natural elements; the waves, the salty sea air, wild flowers and scented garden.
Starting our journey in the little stone round hut we started with am invigorating dry body scrub to awaken the skin, before rinsing it away in the outdoor showers. My mamma was very excited for the next experience, the outdoor cedar wood sauna with views of the sea, after a steamy ten minutes it was time for the cold bucket. This was hilarious as nothing quite prepares you for the icy water and although gasps were made, it meant the inviting outdoor hot tub felt like a warm embrace. Our bodies being soothed in the warm bubbling water while sipping cool cucumber water was pure bliss and I could have easily stayed in their for hours! Eventually we climbed out for our second outdoor body scrub of natural oils, washing away the heavenly scents and leaving our skin silky smooth. Finally wrapped in our robes we embraced the last part of the Sensory Spa Garden experience, our feet bathed in warm copper basins while enjoying the open pit fire and hot lemon and ginger tea. Total Bliss for any tired mama!
After checking into our rooms and following a heavenly head and neck massage, we were ready for dinner served in the Herring, one of the Bedruthan Hotel & Spa two restaurants. While the Wild Cafe is suited for families, the Herring offers an intimate dining experience with the most stunning sea views. There’s nothing quite like experiencing the best of Cornish produce while watching the sunset!
Due to being woken most mornings by a small person it seems my body clock was against me having a lie in, even in Romi’s absence, however I still felt refreshed and ready for a hearty breakfast, with a spot of meditation. The Wild Cafe was a hive of activity and the breakfast bar seemed to offer a bit of everything, I started with the special sweet potato toast topped with mushrooms, spinach and eggs and of course coffee!
Funny enough I was so mesmerised by the sea views that I totally missed our meditation session, but in a way the big blue was enough of focal point to feel totally blissed out. We ended our stay with a late 1pm checkout so we could make the most of the spa hydro pool and a walk down to Mawgan Pawth Beach, the sand stretches out with the tide and it has to be one of my favourite spots on the North Cornwall Coast. We actually visited here when I was pregnant with Felix so it felt rather special revisiting it after Romi’s arrival.
My Mam had the best time and it was so nice to spend some time together without any distractions. I would certainly recommend the Sensory Spa Garden experience and a stay at the hotel itself, the family amenities were so good I think I’ll bring the children along next time!
