OUR NORDIC INTERIOR LOUNGE MAKEOVER

I've always leaned toward a Scandi style of pale colours, calm spaces and mixed textures when it comes to our lounge at home, and although we rent our flat it's nice to feel the space represents our love of design. Mix this in with a huge ole dose of pregnancy hormones and the need to nest and yep you've guessed it....you have a room makeover! That's right, A month back I decided that with our new arrival due in January I wanted the flat to be just right and declared I was going to be focusing on a Nordic inspired lounge makeover much to everyone's dismay delight!

Our lovely flat has been shown in magazines a few times but I just wasn't feeling the love anymore and I couldn't put my finger on what was causing it. After seeing how well Felix's back to school Scandi style bedroom looked, I knew I wanted to do the same for the lounge, what with it being our main family space and place to chill.

THE IDEA

Yes I sure love a good moodboard, so had fun putting this together to show my inspiration and prove this wasn't just a pregnancy fuelled hormone frenzy about to be unleashed. I loved the natural woods, hints of gold and and dash of colours.

When I look back at old pics I cringe a little, even though there is nothing too awful about this look, it all feels a little crammed, cluttered and a bit hit and miss. There are some things we can't change due to renting like the wood floors, the mantle mirror etc but it's crazy it has taken this long to get the lounge finally sorted.

AND NOW....

Soooo much better right?! The major difference was painting the walls a bright white to reflect the light across the room and to move the table and chairs out of the window. It was nice for Felix to look at the garden but we often found he would ask to watch TV as it sat opposite his chair, plus the table blocked these gorgeous Georgian windows.

I particularly love our new dining space. We moved the old bookcase into the bedroom to free up a wall so we could create a dedicated space for eating as a family and dining with friends. We kept our old habitat table, which transforms into a large circle, seating six, and instead upgraded the chairs to these gorgeous Nordic inspired design with natural weave seat from the Cult Furniture dining range. I added a grey sheepskin throw onto the end chair to give it that extra Scandi feel and these two abstract prints from Juniqe to frame the area.

We picked up a new large cabinet from Ikea to hide away all of the board games and kids DVD's that were spilling into the room. I can't believe how much space we gained just from moving a bookcase! Also it meant I had a perfect spot to display all my lovely treasures, not to mention a place to put our Sony Portable Short Throw Projector! 

I love that this beautifully designed little cube has given us so much joy! There's nothing like a stylish hi-tech gadget to people please, and this one certainly does that. We were kindly sent this by Sony to try out and I absolutely love it. Not only does it look great on top of my pile of mags but it can project all sorts of ace things onto the wall, such as a clock *needed*, photos from my phone, Instagram, Pinterest, oh and did I mention you can stream Youtube and films too! So lots of fun snuggling up and watching our favourite things! We recently watched End of the F**king World on  4oD, a must watch! 

Another must have that has ALWAYS been on my wish list is a bar cart. My Nan and Grandad had one and I would always say when I'm grown up I'll have one too! So when this beauty arrived from West Elm I was like a kid at Christmas. This slim and stylish brass bar cart fits in beautifully with my Nordic Inspired theme, adding a touch of glam to the neutral colours and natural woods that I've tried to use around the room. Also how much fun is it for entertaining! Obviously at the moment it's a big no no to cocktail o'clock at home, but I'm looking forward to having friends over to celebrate NYE and raising a glass when our little girl arrives. I'm even thinking of a 'mocktai'l baby shower. I love that West Elm is now available at John Lewis too! To add a touch of cosy to the lounge (and because I stupidly shrunk the back sofa cushions in the wash) I used this giant sheepskin rug to cover the sofa. It is so soft and really gives off that Hygge vibe, perfect for our Nordic inspired lounge makeover. I also moved our Bee Gee lamp from Loaf to create a little reading space. 
I kept my hand printed cushions stacked on a rattan floor stool, the graphic print compliments the gorgeous rug from Houseology. I was looking for something to hide the old carpet and create a defined separate for the dining table as they share the same room. It really works and it's nice to have two areas.You can print your own cushion cover here using this simple DIY tutorial – it's super cheap to do! 

Felix LOVES the rug and it's now his favourite place to read, do colouring and generally hang out. It's super soft and shaggy and even though it has a cool chevron design it doesn't overpower the room. I can't wait to see what this looks like when we eventually have it on wood floorboard *ah the dream*

Finally we switched our old habitat unit to behind the sofa allowing us to make a music corner to hold all our vinyl and Sonos speakers, and I couldn't resist adding a touch of green with our new Cheese Plant named 'Barry" by the kiddo.

It finally feels like a lounge I can relax in and I can't wait to introduce our little girl into the new space. If you're interested I've popped a source list below.
