A PERFECT HABOURSIDE PICNIC

As we're on Chicken Pox lock down I thought it would be nice to look back at last week when we decided to make the most of the morning sun and head out for an impromptu harbourside picnic. F loves the water and watching the boats go by, and I'm always up for eating alfresco, plus there's some picturesque walks down through Clifon Wood to the floating harbour. I hastily packed up some things from the fridge and headed out with Paul and an excited F in tow.

Loaded down with an over sized scarf, baguette, cheese, strawberries and olives as well as some little cakes and a cheeky bottle of Lindemans Rose, we made our way to the end Bellevue Crescent and down the 106 steps past Worlds End Cottage. I love this little narrow passageway, it's full of charm with crumbling stone walls and overgrown wild flowers pushing their way through the brickwork.

We walked down Capricorn Place, F chatting excitedly all the way and occasionally shouting out at the local ferries, hoping someone might wave. It's such a lovely stroll, especially on a summers day and what better way break in my new shoes! The path leads down to a little promenade and jetty where houseboats reside and the cool new cafe Spoke & Springer has recently opened.

We picked a little spot on the jetty and laid out the scarf, food and wine with a few passersby looking on with smiles and tucked in. There's nothing more satisfying then breaking into a fresh baguette and loading it in creamy cheese *mmm my weekend treat!* and F demolished most of the strawberries, reminding me to book a day out at a PYO Strawberry Farm this summer.

We lounged, chatted, explored the promenade and picked wild flowers and soon it was time to head home as F was getting weary after his early start, it's days like these which are sometimes the best, just taking it slow and making special memories for F along the way. This week looks it looks like we'll be taking it easy at home as F recovers from the Chicken Pox which has floored him, poor thing. I hope you had a great weekend in the sun, and perhaps even enjoyed a little outdoor picnic.

  11. I love that part of the harbourside, until recently I didn't know there was the little ferry that went from riverside to side either.
