A FUN FAMILY STAY IN OUR AIRBNB PARIS APARTMENT

Those of you who follow me on Instagram probably know we decided to spend Easter half term with a family stay in our Airbnb Paris *sigh take me back* and I've been dying to show you around the cutest Parisian apartment that we got to call home.

I LOVE Paris, everything about it oozes a special je ne sais quoi, from its architecture to the perfect for people watching outdoor cafes, this city holds a dear place in my heart.

We decided to stay with Airbnb as it gave us more flexibility for a family stay in Paris, especially in the evening, and we wanted a space where we could eat, chat, catch up on a film with a glass of vino without waking the boy.

We spent a day or two before travelling making a note of what we wanted to see, do and more importantly eat! There are so many cool insta-friendly spots that do the best food and I was super excited about this part of the trip – a whole post on this to come! When Felix was three we stayed in Marais, but this time I wanted to experience something a little more authentic, a taste of a real Parisian neighbourhood that wouldn't be heaving with tourists.

After searching the instant booking function on Airbnb Paris we found this little gem, a top floor light and airy Parisian bolt hole only a minutes walk from Pyrénées metro in the 19th arrondissement. We were greeted by our host, who showed us around and gave us a few tips of the local area before leaving us to settle in.

I loved how quirky the space is, the owners are artists and it really shows as they certainly have eye for detail, check out the wine glass mini chandelier! The apartment is sandwiched between two brilliant parks for kids, Belleville and Butte Chaumont, and a stones throw from the metro and mini-supermarket.

We started each day with breakfast at the kitchen bar, giving the plants a quick water as requested and   Felix having a quick turn on the keyboard before heading to the metro. I loved that Pyrénées station is only three stops from Rebublique station where you can pretty much change onto most lines or hop off and walk into Marais, and seven stops from Notre Dame making it perfect to get around the city.

As we spent nearly all of each day exploring and walking across Paris – my Fitbit told me we were averaging 24,000 steps a day! – so it was pretty easy getting Felix down at bedtime. The apartment has a bedroom with a sliding door allowing you to shut off the lounge, and our bedroom was off Felix's room meaning we were super close by if he needed us.

I loved all the little details that made this space feel like home, not only were we able to relax and find our own grove, but the flat oozed personality from the collection of books and stacked ceramics, their daughter's pencilled height chart drawn straight onto the wall and the quirky anatomical bathroom door handles that could make you blush!

Overall we loved the light and airy space, the Juliette balcony, the quirky details and simplistic charm, our only feedback to our host was that the sofa was a little hard, nothing that a couple of scatter cushions couldn't fix. Also it's worth noting that the apartment is at the top of the building, think winding staircases so not ideal for a buggy.

TOP TIPS WHEN BOOKING WITH AIRBNB

• When searching for your perfect family Airbnb accommodation be sure to use the advanced filters so you can be specific with your needs such as a washer/dryer or cot. Be sure to tick the family friendly search option when staying with kids as over 70% of their homes are family friendly and they have a great selection.

• The more stars an Airbnb host has the better it is likely to be. Read previous guests reviews to make sure it's the place for you.

• Why not unpack as soon as you arrive so it feels like home and be sure to ask your host for recommendations of places to eat and transport links in your new neighbourhood.

• Need some chill time in the evening? Download a film or music onto your portable device in case your home doesn't have international channels and you haven't mastered the language yet!

• Maintain some of your normal routine and have fun cooking and eating in a night or two. We actually watched Amélie again with a deli board and vino. So much fun!

• Be sure to write up an honest review after your stay for other guests searching and also to get feedback yourselves.

I can't wait to head back to Paris and try another local area, the first thing we did when we got home was go through Airbnb and star apartments near some of the places we discovered and loved. I'll be writing up our COOL KIDS GUIDE TO PARIS part 2 and sharing the rest of our adventure on the blog soon.
