TOP SUMMER FESTIVALS

This is a guest post

The UK is home to a wealth of festivals this summer, from Wireless, T in the Park and Global Gathering in July, or V and Creamfields in August. It seems like the entire country will come alive with festivals up and down the country featuring some of the best in international and home grown musical talent. So where should you go this year? And more importantly what should you pack? Read on for the pick of the UK's festivals in 2014.

What to Wear

Festival chic is all about comfort and style and you'll find that by the bucket load at George. Hopefully the weather will be on your side, so don't forget to pack your bikini, but you might equally need to crack out the wellies if the good old British summer does what it does best and the heavens open, turning the festival ground into what can only be described as a mudbath. Fringing is huge this year, whether it's on bags and accessories, or tops and vests, and you can never go wrong with a pair of denim shorts. Florals, embroidery and lace are all just as popular this year and you'll find a great selection at George that will last you all festival season and beyond.

Bestival

Between the 4th and 7th of September, Robin Hill Country Park on the Isle of Wight will rock to the beat of Outkast, Beck, Busta Rhymes, Paloma Faith, Basement Jaxx, Candi Staton, Annie Mac, Chase and Status, Zane Lowe, DJ EZ, Rat Pack and many more. With 'Desert Island Flicks', the popular late night cinema at the amphitheatre, a Bollywood tent, a desert island theme to this year’s event and amazing places to stay, from the yurts in the boutique campsite to the premium campsite at The Wild Copse, it promises to be a weekend you won't forget.

Reading Festival

On the weekend of the 24th to 26th of August, Richfield Avenue in Reading will play host to some of the biggest names in music. You'll see Paramore, Jake Bugg, Kings of the Stoneage, Vampire Weekend, Arctic Monkeys, The Hive, Blink 182, Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, The Kooks, Bombay Bicycle Club and many more great artists set the stage alight. There are plenty of options for camping, from the quirky pods to the luxury tends and you certainly wont go hungry, thanks to the hundreds of traders selling everything from pizzas to ostrich burgers.

Global Gathering

Global Gathering promises to be a weekend to remember. Held on the 25th and 26th of July in Stratford upon Avon and featuring acts like The Prodigy, Eric Prydz, Tinie Tempa, Chase and Status, David Guetta, Alesso, Jamie Jones, Sub Focus, MK and loads of other dance acts, it's the festival to go to if you're into dance music. Here you can camp in hotel bell tents and pods, or perhaps even upgrade to VIP status and enjoy the 'A Midsummer Night's Dream' themed VIP area, with hot tubs, woodland wonderland, VIP bar tent, Raj chill out tent and extended party hours.

Whichever festival you choose this year, you're guaranteed to have the time of your life.

  4. Glastonbury has to be my favourite festival ever plus it's just down the road from me so getting there and back is super easy! I love how diverse it is and the fact you could go there and have an amazing weekend without even seeing a band. It's awesome! x

  7. We are DEFINITELY doing festivals this year. I wish I hadn't been nervous about booking any this year as it turns out the baby is totally cool with camping.

  8. We love going to festivals and always do one or two each year - usually we have pretty good weather with maybe one day of light showers - I think as long as you have wellies, a poncho and an umbrella you will be okay.
