A CITY BREAK IN LIVERPOOL

Image via here.

Moving around the country a lot, there have been so many cities in the UK that I've visited, whether it be Newcastle, London, Bournemouth, Cambridge, Leeds, Brighton and of course Bristol, I have had fun exploring cities, visiting friends and enjoying mini breaks. But as much as I love to travel abroad, I always love the novelty of feeling like a tourist in the UK.

One place still on my list to visit is Liverpool, not only am I a bit of a Beatles fan but my love for art and architecture has secured my want for a weekend away in this cosmopolitan city.

My top three places to visit are:

Albert Dock
Situated on the banks of the River Mersey this is one of the UK's top heritage attractions and also part of the city's UNESCO World Heritage sites. Home to the Beatles story, Tate Liverpool and the International Slavery Museum, it is full of culture and history, and I can just imagine myself soaking up the sites before enjoying traditional fish 'n' chips along the dock.

Cavern Quater
For any Beatles fan this area of the city is a must. Home to one of the most iconic clubs in the UK, the Cavern Club is Liverpool's top music venues, famous for the Beatles performing under its brick arches on stage over 50 years ago. It would be great fun to sit back, drink in hand and watch some live music on stage.

China Town
As a young teen I remember my parents taking me to China Town in Newcastle for a birthday meal. The lights, noise and smells were vibrant and spell binding, and certainly influenced my love of Asian food and a lust for travel. Liverpool Imperial Arch is the largest outside of China and ranks as one of the most spectacular sites in Liverpool. I would love to wander the district at night and maybe sit and sample some of the fine food it has to offer.

Of course Liverpool has many other wonderful sites that would be great to visit, from the imposing St George's Hall and the Victoria Gallery and Museum to the delightfully relaxed surroundings of family run restaurants on Hope Street. For those like me who fancy a UK mini break without breaking the bank, you can find the details of some great value hotels here https://www.travelodge.co.uk/hotels/book/liverpool-hotels. I can't wait to book my adventure and explore the best the city has to offer.

  1. I've been to Liverpool a couple of times and I love it down by the Albert Dock. I even went when they still filmed This Morning there and they had the floating weather map!
