A GOOD BOOK // The Messy Monster Book

We've long been fans of the kids magazine OKIDO, full of fun facts and creative ideas, so when we heard that the Messy Monster character had taken a leap off its pages into this good book, we couldn't wait to get our hands on a copy.

Has your little one woken up from a bump in the night or maybe a scary shadow creeping out from under the bed? The Messy Monster Book is not only brimming with colourful contemporary illustrations, each beautifully screen printed to capture your child's imagination but it also explores philosophical ideas, making learning fun and helps keep bad dreams at bay. The quirky characters, each with a playful yet edgy style, transport you to the Planet of Dreaming Mountains where nightmares have taken over and the Musical Cat had fallen into a deep sleep, leaving the children to go wild. Sounds a bit trippy? It's this crazy creativity and twisty tale that hooks you in and keeps you guessing as to what excitement will be found on the next page.

Stopping along the way to ask thoughtful questions such as Is it lying to tell imaginary stories? or What is a friend? this book is bound to get those young minds ticking as well as providing interactive sections whether it's drawing a nightmare, making a flute whistle to wake the musical cat or even creating a little door to keep your dreams safe, each giving your child the tools to help them cope with any bad dreams that come their way.

This is set to be an instant classic with adults and children alike, and F couldn't have been happier to find that his name appears throughout the book, creating an extra dimension to our storytelling time. His favourite page by far has to be the small colourful poo that can be found towards the end of the story, illustrating that even waste can make something beautiful.

What soothing words do you use when nightmares strike?

We were sent a copy of The Messy Monster Book for review purposes. All thoughts and words are our own.

  1. Ah this book is beautiful. Ebony wakes up screaming sometimes, but hasn't yet managed to put into words what caused her fear, so at the moment I just reassure her by being there. x

  8. Love the illustrations, and the idea behind it. My toddler is currently scared of a plug socket, we have to examine it carefully before bed each night, I have no idea why!
