A GOOD BOOK // Another Night Before Christmas

The festive season of merriment and light is literally round the corner as we stumble into December at the weekend. I was saving this good book for a Christmas post but on second thoughts every kid should have this to read on Christmas Eve, so I thought I'd give you time to order it.

This genius re-write of Clement Moore's Night before Christmas by the talented Carol Ann Duffy is a true Christmas treasure bringing the beloved poem into the 21st century.  Another Night Before Christmas has already been republished using artist Rob Ryan's illustrations, but as much as I love his paper cut prints there is nothing that gives a bit of sparkle and warmth to this story quite like Marc Boutavant illustrations. I have already packed a few of these off to friends with babes, wrapped and ready for Christmas Eve. The illustrations bring alive the beautiful words that flow in ribbon-like lines across the pages and I always reach a certain point in this book where a lump sticks in my throat and I'm not quite sure why; maybe the loss of seeing Christmas throughs child's eye, or the coming together of people for one day.

though she lived in an age where celebrity ruled
and most of the people were easily fooled
by TV and fashion, by money and cars,
the little girl knew that here was a real STAR

We're very lucky to have a copy of this book, signed, personally illustrated and sent on the back of motorbike through Paris to us many many moons ago. I hope you enjoy it x
